Educator Tyrus J. Manning III to be honored at Founder’s Day (July 2023)

On Saturday, July 1 from 4-7 PM at our annual Founder’s Day event, Tyrus J. Manning III, a favorite educator in our community here in Morgan County, is to receive the Charlie Bonner Award for Advancing Art Education.

Ty has been through much in the last decade: sobriety, marriage, 3 open heart surgeries, divorce, grad school, multiple health issues, a global pandemic and now RETIREMENT! Ty, or Mr. Manning, taught Art at Morgan County High School in Madison, Georgia for the last 20 years. He says it’s time to practice what he has been preaching for those 2 decades, which is, “dream big and make it happen! Time to make as much art & music as I can!”

Join us for this Founder’s Day Event to help us honor Ty for his contributions to the Arts in our community!

New Addition to STMA’s Main Gallery- Lowrance Collection Tableau

The Lowrance Collection Tableau, featured in STMA’s main gallery, is a sneak peek of the future Highlights of the Lowrance Collection exhibition, which will open January, 2024.

This tableau features art and musical accompaniment that would’ve been seen and heard as you explored the collections of the Lowrance family home.

Works from the Collection have appeared in many exhibitions. Published exhibition catalogues include: Freedom of the Figure (St. Johns Museum of Art, Wilmington, NC); The Art of Steffen Thomas (Steffen Thomas Museum of Art); Steffen Thomas Rediscovered (Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA).
