Journey from Europe to East Asia in this multicultural exhibit featuring art, artifacts, photos, and so much more. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a homebody, you’ll enjoy this trip around the globe at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art! The Thomas family was full of adventure and that spirit has been captured in Steffen’s art.

Black Heritage and the Brotherhood of Man

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art invites you to our annual exhibition showcasing contemporary African American artists in Georgia. The legacy of Steffen Thomas is both as an artist and advocate of equality and unity. Participating artists will exhibit work that both celebrates the African American experience and creates thoughtful dialog concerning social and political themes.

Art as Experience: Richard James Olsen and the Vietnam War

May 28th – September 5th, 2020

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art is privileged to exhibit the works of Richard James Olsen in its West Gallery. Professor of Art Emeritus at the University of Georgia, Richard Olsen is a veteran helicopter pilot of the Vietnam War. Olsen’s Wall series of abstract paintings features rich symbolism associated with his time in military service.

Elements: Expressions in Wood, Metal, and Stone

September 17th – November 7th, 2020

See expression in its most natural form at this group exhibition dedicated to earthly elements and returning to one’s roots. This sculpture-focused show will feature works in wood, metal, and stone by contemporary Georgia sculptors as well as Steffen Thomas.

Unveiled: New Acquisitions from a Private Collection

November 19th, 2020 to January 7th, 2021

Generously donated by a private collector, this set of rarely seen Steffen Thomas works will make their first public appearance since joining the permanent collection. These pieces will be shown alongside studies and complementary Thomas artworks from the rest of the museum’s collection. Works on paper, canvas, and found objects reveal Thomas’s artistic brilliance once more. Virtual tours, events, and other activities to be announced.
